Gala Night 2013

Gala Performance of Whistle Down The Wind presented by the NYMT

25th July at The Rose Theatre Kingston

Attended by HRH The Earl of Wessex KG GCVO

Now in its fifth year the International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF) will be back in Kingston From 6th -28th July 2013 Kingston will come alive as young people from the ages of 5 to 26 showcase the very best in youth arts, selected from the UK and Internationally. IYAF enables you to catch the headliners of the future today by bringing the most talented young people from across the globe together to create and celebrate alongside the young and old of Kingston upon Thames.

Over 7000 young people will come together to participate in workshops, projects and performances, showcasing their work in more than 300 events in 15 venues over 18 days throughout the town. Look out for music and laughter along the riverside, theatre and drama pouring out from venues into the streets, dance bringing to life the oldest of buildings, carnival parades with a twist of the surreal, circus performers suspended in places you didn’t dream possible and the smiling faces of the hundreds of young volunteers who make it all possible.

The International Youth Arts Festival organised by Creative Youth is not just a focus on performance but importantly offers young people the opportunity to develop their skills in all areas of the arts industry. From producing, promoting, designing and directing to marketing, web design, technical support and project planning.

NYMT is the UK’s finest youth music theatre, offering challenging opportunities to performers aged 11-25. NYMT has enabled young people from all backgrounds and across the UK to develop their creative and personal potential, leading Andrew Lloyd Webber to dub it “the best youth music theatre in the world”. For all the family, Whistle Down The Wind is the story of three farm children who discover a mysterious man hiding in their barn. Convinced he is Jesus, they, alongside nine friends – The Disciples – pledge to protect him and keep him secret from the adults. Who is he?
Creative Youth

NYMT’s 1993 production of Richard Taylor’s magnificent musical won high acclaim. With over one hundred of the UK’s most talented young performers, Whistle Down The Wind is “So good, even Jesus might return to earth for a ticket!” (Yorkshire Post) “one of the NYMT’s finest ever pieces of work – an organic tightly realised achievement of power, beauty and immense significance.” (Michael Coveney, The Daily Mail). “The heart-warming must-see show of the season.” – Standard. ”Remarkable” – The Times
