IYAF 2014 – A Spectacular Summer Event!

As the dust settles on another incredible year for the International Youth Arts Festival, Kingston, it falls to me to say a tremendous thank you to everyone involved in making this year such a glorious success.  To our hardworking Creative Youth and venue staff, our talented participants, our supportive audiences and our passionate volunteers – you are the soul of this festival and what makes it so very special – Thank You!!!

This year’s IYAF featured over 320 events over 23 days across 18 venues in Kingston upon Thames.  Just shy of 10,000 audience members attended ticketed performances with tens of thousands more enjoying free outdoor work.  Approximately 4000 young people participated in the festival including performers, production teams, our dedicated press team, workshops participants and 120 volunteers without whom the festival would simply not be possible.

I’d like to give a special mention to our three ‘Best of the Fest’ shows: The Common Land by Fine Mess Theatre (http://www.finemesstheatre.co.uk/), Method in Madness by Entita Theatre (http://www.entitatheatre.co.uk/Entita/HOME.html) and You must be the one to bury me by Waldeinsamkeit Theatre (http://waldeinsamkeit.co.uk/).

A huge congratulations and thanks also goes to our ‘Volunteer of the Year’ – Layla Sanjoori

All 10 of the brilliant newsletters produced by our young volunteer press team, plus reviews, interviews and features can be viewed here

Please keep following us on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr for updates throughout the year!

So as we begin to close the door on 2014 and look forwards to the excitement of 2015 (applications open in September!) I will leave the final words to some of those that have been so moved by IYAF this year.

Best wishes

Aniela & all the Creative Youth team.
