Design Competition Winner Announced for 10th International Youth Arts Festival

A first year Kingston College student has won a competition to design the official artwork for this year’s International Youth Arts Festival (IYAF) in Kingston.

Sixteen year-old Belle Junput (pictured) submitted a bold and lively design that topped a competitive field and will feature on the cover of 10,000 Festival brochures, as well as posters, flyers and other promotional material.

IYAF brings some of the greatest young talent from around the world to Kingston for a week of inventive, inspiring and groundbreaking theatre, music, dance, comedy and visual art.

The 10th anniversary Festival will run from 6 – 15 July 2018 at venues across Kingston.

Belle said of her win: “I am very happy that my design was chosen, I never thought that I would win.

“The idea behind my design is to show how the festival is such an important event in Kingston by featuring famous Kingston landmarks such as the River Thames and the phone box sculpture.

“I drew objects and characters using an illustration style and chose colours that suggest happiness and fun. I really enjoyed creating my designs and I’m very excited to see them used.”

Louise Coles, CEO of Creative Youth, which administers the Festival, said: “IYAF is all about showcasing new creative talent, and it’s great to start with the work of a talented young artist like Belle. Her design perfectly encapsulates the colour, vibrancy and setting of IYAF.

“We have a very strong partnership with Kingston College so it feels very fitting that one of their students has won the competition in our 10th year.”
