Overview

This autumn, we invited four artists to undertake a residency at FUSEBOX.

Selected through our Open Call Exhibition programme, the artists have come together to develop their practices, undertake research, access studio space and, most crucially, curate their own solo exhibitions with the support and guidance of our team.

Opening hours

  • Exhibition dates: 2 October – 21 October. The Exhibition is open Wednesdays – Fridays from 12:00-19:00 (last entry 18:30).
  • The Private View takes place on Thursday 1 October, 18:30-20:30. Sign up for free for the Private View.

About the exhibitions

Across the four exhibitions, you will encounter very different ways of making and seeing.

  • Kyra-Sky draws on Caribbean folk traditions, migration and linguistics, transforming stories and beliefs into new artefacts through installation.
  • Beatrice Keelan uses analogue photography, film and performance to investigate memory, emotion and the uneasy relationship between the observer and the observed.
  • ITCH Dance challenges the conventions and binaries of traditional dance, creating space for LGBTQIA+ artists to move, perform and exist authentically.
  • Mariia Yarchevska brings Ukrainian cultural heritage, protective symbols and imagined forest beings to life through her sculptural Beisiki — small creatures born from dreams and nightmares.

Together, these practices explore what it means to remember, belong, imagine and be seen. They move between the personal and the collective, the real and the imagined, the intimate and the political. While each artist speaks in a distinct visual and physical language, all four invite us to look again at the stories, identities and experiences that shape how we understand ourselves and the world around us.

About the artists

KYRA-SKY
Kyra-Sky (b. 2000, London) obtained their BFA in 2022 from Oxford Brookes University; receiving the Fine Art Writing prize, and a solo show at Modern Art Oxford as part of the Platform Graduate Award. Kyra- Sky graduated with an MFA in 2024 from The Ruskin School of Art, quickly securing their second solo show; Eophian Relics (2025) at Picturedome, Gloucester.
Kyra-Sky explores themes of migration, folk-ritual and linguistics. working primarily with installation, film, and text to produce artefacts based on various traditions, beliefs or folk-tales from the Caribbean islands of St.Lucia and Grenada.

BEATRICE KEELAN
Beatrice Keelan is an artist working with photography, film and performance. She researches fluid subjects like memory or emotion as though they are a cold case to be investigated, with a hopeless determination to find concrete meaning. She is also interested in notions of the photographer as the outsider, forever recording and learning through the experiences of others.
This is explored primarily through analogue photography, working with high-grain film which is enlarged in the darkroom to create images that feel ambiguous yet familiar. Her work disguises personal obsessions and insecurities within the artist character she presents, allowing her to explore these feelings whilst maintaining distance from the audience.

ITCH DANCE
ITCH Dance is an inclusive dance company where all dance artists can access professional level training, perform meaningful work and are a part of a LGBTQIA+ affirming community that values authenticity over tradition. Our company is designed to dismantle restrictive binary traditions within dance, create accessible opportunities and provide a safe space for dancers to thrive.

MARIIA YARCHEVSKA
Mariia Yarchevska, is a Ukrainian sculptor creating sculptures she calls Beisiki. Beisiki —
“little demons” in Ukrainian — are beings from my dreams and nightmares, brought to life through clay and acrylic paint, making tangible the emotions and experiences hidden in my imagination. Mariia works with air-dry ceramic clay for small and medium-scale sculptures, while larger pieces rely on wire and foil frameworks for balance and stability. Her recent collection draws inspiration from Ukrainian cultural heritage, ancient protective symbols, and mystical forest beings. Through these works, I aim to transform imagination into form, giving voice to the unseen.

Our Young Creatives

Our Young Creatives have long held the ambition to bring artist residencies to FUSEBOX. As a panel of young people who help shape and lead our work, they are passionate about amplifying the voices of emerging artists and creating meaningful opportunities for artists to develop and share their work.

Through discussion, research and curation of our Open Call Exhibitions, they selected four artists whose practices reflect the spirit of FUSEBOX: artists experimenting with different forms, telling unique stories, exploring questions of identity and belonging, and taking the next steps in their creative journeys.

The Young Creatives’ selections have culminated in the four solo exhibitions presented here. We are proud to support these emerging artists by providing the funding, space and platform to develop their practices, take creative risks and share their work with new audiences.
