A weird and wonderful display of the relationship between animals and humans. Against a backdrop of climate destruction, this exhibition reminds us of what we stand to lose and what we should celebrate most from the world around us.
Tracey Lee has worked at ZSL London Zoo for 33 years. During that time she has cared for some of the planet’s most incredible animals, from Asian elephants and black rhinos to pygmy hippos and Sumatran tigers. When the elephants left the zoo in 2001 Tracey picked up a bit of poo from a very special elephant called Geetha. She had never looked at poo before in this way.
After years of shovelling it into skips it suddenly seemed different. She kept this ball of dung and hid it away in the zoo. When the time came for the next animal she loved – Jos the black rhino – to be moved on, Tracey kept his last ball of poo next to Geetha’s and so the collection began…
Now, over 100 specimens of animal poo – along with photographs, soundscapes and artworks from Tracey’s time at the zoo – are coming to FUSEBOX in a weird and wonderful display of the relationship between animals and humans. Against a backdrop of climate destruction, this exhibition reminds us of what we stand to lose and what we should celebrate most from the world around us.
