Black Chorus: A Symphony of Visual Art
“Black Chorus,” emphasises the idea of individual voices contributing to a larger narrative, much like a chorus where each voice is distinct yet part of a harmonious ensemble.
Creative Youth invites Black artists from all visual art disciplines and of Black British, African, Caribbean and mixed Black Heritage to submit one piece of work that takes ownership of and reflects the multiplicity of Black identities, cultural narratives and experiences throughout the diaspora in order to uplift and celebrate narratives that have often historically been under or misrepresented in the art world.
As part of the ‘Black Chorus’ open call exhibition launch, we will also be running a Creative Sparks poetry/ spoken word night on Thursday 3 October.
Creative Youth would like to invite Black poets and spoken word artists of Black British, African, Caribbean and mixed Black heritage to apply and perform their work at the launch of the exhibition. We encourage Creative Sparks applicants to consider the themes and subjects mentioned in relation to the ‘Black Chorus’ exhibition. We’re asking for spoken word artists to apply by submitting some of their previous work, with successful poets delivering a 10-minute set.
£30 per entry (either poetry or art submission)
£50 for both poetry and art submission.
This exhibition will run from Thursday 3 – Saturday 12 October.
Our Creative Sparks Spoken Word Evening will take place on Thursday 3 October (18:00 – 21:00).
