Year of Muybridge
Join us for a series of special celebrations to mark 190 years since the pioneering photographer’s birth
On the 9 April several local partners were due to be celebrating the life and achievements of one of the borough’s most famous residents – pioneering photographer and inventor Eadweard Muybridge – by putting on a special launch day in Kingston to mark his birthday.
Whilst we have postponed these physical birthday plans until time allows, we don’t want the day to be missed so are instead staging some online activity, which we would love you to join us for. We also wanted to inform you of exciting project plans once current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) restrictions have been lifted.
To mark 190 years since the inventor’s birth, Kingston Council’s Heritage Service has programmed special activity hailing the achievements of Muybridge – widely regarded as a significant influencer of modern cinema due to his trailblazing work on motion picture movement.
The official Year of Muybridge launch day is Thursday 9 April – Muybridge’s birthday – and this will start an ongoing year of celebrations, with the theme of the year being ‘movement’.
