Mindful Art Sessions are weekly, artist‑led workshops for young people aged 12–25, offering mental health support through creativity. Developed by Creative Youth in partnership with Mind in Kingston and Richmond Borough Mind, the programme provides a safe space that blends arts practice, mindfulness and emotional wellbeing. Each year concludes with a Mindful Art Exhibition showcasing participants’ work.
The programme has grown from a single participant to a core group of 15 regular attendees, engaging more than 110 young people to date. Initially funded by a £10,000 National Lottery Community Fund grant and later extended with a further £20,000 award, Mindful Art Sessions continue through 2026.
To date, the programme has delivered over 100 sessions, supported 12 freelance artists, hosted two co‑curated exhibitions and strengthened organisational safeguarding through staff training in mental health awareness and first aid. Teachers, parents and participants report improvements in wellbeing and school attendance.
Mindful Art Sessions continue to offer a safe, supportive environment for young people to explore creativity, access mental health support and contribute to a growing local arts network.
