FUSEBOX is not only an arts space, but also a heritage site. Our space houses the Saxon remains of the original foundations of Kingston Bridge as well as the Medieval Undercroft. We are proud to be the guardians of this fascinating part of Kingston’s local history.
Archaeologists guided by the Museum of London’s staff, exposed the foundations and springings of the the arches of the medieval Kingston Bridge just downstream of the present one: the gently curving cobbled street that lead to it, and the undercroft or vaulted basement of a medieval house that stood beside it.
It is our role to preserve and celebrate this heritage, so that it can be enjoyed by future generations. In doing so, we hope you find the artefacts in FUSEBOX to be a source of creative inspiration.
You can read more about these artefacts through the links below, or by checking out the displays in FUSEBOX.
FUSEBOX is a multi-arts space for young people where ideas and imaginations will be sparked and dreams realised.
Formerly known as the Undercroft, FUSEBOX is a place for young people, emerging artists, key academic partners, and community organisations locally, nationally and internationally to come together.
With innovation, diversity and inclusion at its heart, it is a multi-functional space, with areas for performance, exhibitions, creative practice, socialising, co-creation and more.
It is also home to FUSE International and our Creative Talent artists. The venue will evolve in close collaboration with young people and the local arts community, who are at the heart of developing this space.0
